My step son is 7. Found a bunch of searches for:
Dominicans with no hands and feet.
Dominicans with no heads.
Dominican chests.
Dominican torsos.
Dominican legs.
Dominicans in stores.
Dominicans for sale.
Silver Dominicans.
Black Dominicans.
White Dominicans.
I was at a loss of how to bring it up to him. Thankfully, the next day we were in a clothing store and he asked me why Dominicans don’t have hands or heads, then why there are so many different colored Dominicans. I remembered the internet searches and became a little upset. I told him to be quiet because what he was saying could be taken offensively by Dominican people. He then got frustrated and loudly said “Dominicans aren’t people” as he pointed to a statue next to us.
I breathed a sigh of relief and said “Mannequins”.
Plot fucking twist.
IM SO FUCKIN DEDDDDD
it all makes sense now cuz everyone knows theres no black dominicans
something my therapist has me thinking about a lot is the idea of blindspots. the idea that people around us are bound not to witness everything we experience. people around you will not notice all of your feelings, they won’t be able to read your thoughts. failing to acknowledge people’s blindspots can result in warped, black and white thinking. that person you despise is not a villain, not your antagonist. they are the protagonist in their own life just as you are. they have flaws, weaknesses, and blindspots. just like you have.
white on white crime did #that
his death is the gift that keeps on giving
I’m literally in the middle of a living, breathing example of how close we still are to Jim Crow, segregation, and the inertia of white supremacy.
I’m in Alabama at my stepdad’s high school reunion. Class of 1973. The school was created after they closed the Black and white schools and merged them into one…keeping the colors, mascot, and school song of the previous white school. We’re at a picnic and they’re showing a slideshow of the graduating class…over half of which are white…not a single one of whom is here today. Again, this reunion is packed but there’s not one single white person. I asked why and was told, “They have their own.”
My stepdad is 62. The abuse he and his classmates endured at the hands of their white classmates 44 years ago is still present and real for them. Those white folks still have no desire to associate with the Black people they went to school with. In those 44 years, those white folks have raised kids and have grandkids to whom they have no doubt passed on their racism.
This stuff wasn’t “so long ago” and it’s not “in the past.” People are still alive and living with this daily.
it really bothers me that so many people on this site treat ableism like it’s black and white.
just now i saw a post where op was like “i’m glad that spinners are popular because it normalizes fidgets and decreases stigma” and someone replied like “no!! it’s absolutely TERRIBLE that neurotypicals are using these fidgets because when they get in trouble they make things harder for mentally ill kids!!” and like you guys do realize that? you’re both right? it isn’t a decisive fact that neurotypicals using fidgets is either good or bad, there are both benefits and consequences that need to be taken into consideration.
a few months ago there was a post going around that was like, *neurotypical voice* why are you bouncing your leg, and somebody reblogged it saying that the post was ableist because autistic kids can get overstimulated by leg bouncing. i go to a school for the mentally disabled, and i’ve been in this exact scenario, my classmate wasn’t able to focus because i was bouncing my leg and although i felt bad i told him that i wouldn’t be able to stop for long because i do it subconsciously due to my adhd. he wasn’t being ableist for asking me to stop, and i wasn’t being ableist for saying i couldn’t, we just both had different needs. in the end, our compromise was that i went to work in the computer lab.
you have to understand that there is always more than one side to issues like these, and that we should be striving for understanding and balance over demonization of one side and blind support of the other. this is especially relevant when people on both sides are mentally ill or disabled, because sometimes symptoms will clash and you just need to deal with it.
Beyonce: stop killing black people
White ppl: OH My GOD!!! THIS IS SO RADICAL!!!!!! I DONT UNDERSTAND THE NEED TO ANTAGONIZE THE POLICE WHO ARE TRYING TO PROTECT US! ….. Oh I know… Let’s ban Beyonce and continue to kill innocent black lives! Sounds like a plan!
It’s very interesting how white people will specifically choose to not promote black models, actors/actresses, artists, singers, movies, tv shows, businesses but the second poc decide to speak up on it.., it’s a “race war”
Or the second black people only promote and spend money with other black people, white people suddenly get offended
